Paradox Sports is the national leader in adaptive climbing and we are offering a new program format - outdoors! The Adaptive Climbing Initiative Course is intended for climbing facilitators, guides and instructors who seek to help people of all abilities climb.
This new Outdoor Adaptive Climbing Initiative Course at Staunton State Park is designed to prepare leaders in the climbing industry with the "tool-kit" necessary to accommodate climbers of any and all abilities in their programs or guide schools. This comprehensive training program will cover the diversity of disability, etiquette, health concerns, technical systems for adaptation, and site and risk management in a single pitch outdoor environment.
The course will be hosted outdoors at Staunton State Park. Dress code is casual and should be suitable for climbing. Please bring the following:
* If you wish to personally purchase the Adaptive Climbing Manual book, they are available for $20 during check-out (discounted for course participants - regular price $29.95 + shipping via the Paradox website!)
The Adaptive Climbing Initiative is sponsored by The North Face
Facilitators: If you are joining the two-day course as a facilitator, all attendees must have (at minimum) basic knowledge of climbing and ability to belay prior to attending the course. This helps maximize the time focused on adaptive climbing skills and equipment to make the course a valuable experience for all. All participants must be competent in anchor building, anchor cleaning, top rope site management, basic knots and hitches, and various belay techniques. This course is designed to build on the foundation of an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor or equivalent.
If you have never climbed before, or if you are in need of a refresher, please contact your local climbing gym to take an introductory course prior to signing up for the Adaptive Climbing Initiative Facilitator Course.
Meals: There will be an hour lunch break. Please bring any snacks that you might want during the day.
Travel: Attendees are responsible for their own travel.
Cancellation Policy: As a courtesy to others who may be on a Waiting List, please notify Paradox Sports as soon as possible if you can no longer attend the training. You can see our full cancellation and refund policy here.
