Come wind down our local summer outdoor climbing season with a weekend in Elevenmile Canyon. Not far from Colorado Springs, Elevenmile Canyon State Recreation Area is a bit of a hidden local gem. This gorgeous, winding river canyon, lined by huge granite domes sits just below the dam and reservoir at Elevenmile State Park. The many domes and rock faces offer high quality single pitch sport routes as well as longer multi-pitch trad routes. Many of the crags are short walks or even roadside with a short stroll to the river to cool off when the climbing is done. If summer outdoor climbing weekends are what you love, you don’t want to miss this one! Once this trip is done, we’ll be changing gears to our fall climbing programs as well as sharpening all of the ice climbing gear up for a winter of fun!

The approach to the climbing sites is varied, but is generally characterized as short walks from the cars along potentially uneven trails with rocks, boulders, stone steps, sand and gravel. The trails are typical “able bodied” climber trails with limited development in regards to ensuring total accessibility. Depending on mobility level, most approaches can range from 2 minutes to 20 minutes and may require the help of climbing assistant(s). The trail accessibility for chair users and those with limited mobility is moderately difficult and many of the routes are slab climbs which may require extra padding, taping and/or layering to protect against abrasion or impact injuries. The approaches range from just a handful of feet, up to 1/4 mile, however participants will have ample support in traveling over this terrain by staff, guides and volunteers. Even with this assistance, participants should have a base level of comfort traveling in this type of terrain. If you have limited mobility, and have questions on the approach/accessibility, please contact Sam at sam@paradoxsports.org.

We will be dispersed camping outside of the recreation area on BLM land so no bathroom services or running water will be available and fire restrictions may exist. You will need to bring your own food, water, cooking supplies (stove/gas/pots/pans/utensils/etc) and bathroom supplies. We will be just outside of the small town of Lake George, so food/water, basic supplies and bathrooms will be available but will require driving 10-15 minutes so plan accordingly. There are a few pit toilets inside the recreation area while we are climbing, and we’ll have a few wag bags as well. At camp, Paradox Sports staff will have our kitchen kit and we can help you with cooking as needed, but please treat this event as a general camping and climbing trip with friends and plan to be as self-sufficient as possible. If you need any camping or climbing gear, please contact sam@paradoxsports.org so we can bring needed items along.
